  • Day 01: 14 May 2022 – Sound of Silence – Dinner under the stars (D)


    On arrival at Ayers Rock airport you will be met and transferred to a Deluxe Room at Desert Garden Hotel 3 nights’ accommodation. In the heart of Australia’s Red Centre, Perched within an oasis of native gardens, the hotel’s 218 elegant guestrooms provide a relaxing retreat from a day of adventure. Time to settle into your room and freshen up before your evening begins with transfer to the remote desert location with majestic views of Uluru. As the sun sets on the horizon to the music of a didgeridoo, enjoy gourmet canapes and chilled sparkling wine before sitting down to a 3 course meal with beer and wine and settle back and listen to our resident star talker decode the southern night sky. Return to the hotel for overnight.

    Day 02: 15 May 2022 – Uluru Sunrise/Base Tour / Field of Lights (B)
    Rise early to travel to the base of Uluru – Here you will receive your breakfast, accompanied by your guide, commence your base walk of Uluru as sunrise approaches. Get up close and personal with the rock and follow in the footsteps of the ancestral beings that shaped the landscape. Walking around Uluru is your best opportunity to connect with the rock and learn its stories. The Uluru base walk is about 10 km of track that takes you around the whole circumference of the rock. Board your coach back into town and receive a certificate of your achievement!

    ** An alternative tour can be booked – with a Sunrise visit to Uluru and then return to hotel for breakfast (own expense). Later this morning you will travel around the base of Uluru in the comfort of your vehicle as your driver guide provides commentary. Continue to the Kuniya Walk where your driver guide will escort you to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole. View Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as your driver guide points out some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru.

    Return to the hotel for the rest of day at leisure.

    To fully appreciate the vast desert landscape and natural wonder of Uluru, you need to experience it from the air. Take to the skies to witness the awesome spectacle of this iconic monolith.

    Later this evening we meet in the hotel reception and as darkness falls and the coloured lights of the 50,000 glass spheres gently come to life. Enjoy a walking experience through the Field of Light, its pathways glistening softly with rhythms of coloured light, beckoning you to explore. Return to the hotel for overnight

    Day 03: 16 May 2022 – Sunrise Kata Tjuta and Valley of Winds Walk /Sunset over Uluru (B)
    Depart early and travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) – where your Driver Guide will explain the geological history of the area. Watch the spectacular sunrise over Kata Tjuta with Uluru in the distance from the western dune viewing area, light breakfast included.

    Valley of the Winds lookout – Your Driver Guide will then escort you on a 2-3 hour walk to the Valley of the Winds lookout. Marvel at the unique flora and admire the view of the central valley of the domes of Kata Tjuta. Return to Desert Garden by midday.

    Afternoon at leisure at the Resort.

    In the late afternoon you will be collected from reception, travel to the Uluru sunset viewing area. Witness the striking colour changes of Uluru at sunset while enjoying nibbles and a complimentary glass of wine. Return to the resort for dinner (own expense) and overnight.

    Day 04: 17 May 2022 – Uluru to Alice Springs
    This morning we depart the resort by road and travel to Alice Springs. Travel through desert scenery, pass through Curtin Springs and view Atila (Mt. Conner). Stop at Erldunda, where you may purchase lunch and then travel along the Stuart Highway and into Alice Springs. Check into the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel for 3 nights’ accommodation including breakfast.

    Day 05: 18 May 2022 – West MacDonnell Ranges (BL)
    After breakfast, we depart on a full-day tour to the panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges. This area is extraordinary for its immensity and array of sunburnt oranges, maroons and purples. View spectacular outback scenery and take photos as we travel along through magnificent Outback Country, stopping at the many historic locations. As we depart town, we will stop at the historical Flynn’s Grave Memorial before enjoying beautiful walks at both Simpsons Gap and Standley Chasm with Lunch at Glen Helen Lodge included. Return to the hotel.

    Day 06: 19 May 2022 –Alice Springs (B)
    After breakfast, we depart on a full-day tour of Alice Springs and its surroundings. Visit the Desert Park and immerse yourself in the beauty and mystery of Australia’s deserts as you wander through the ancient landscapes from dry river beds to dense woodlands full of life. Today we will also visit the Royal Flying Doctor, The Telegraph Station, School of the Air and Anzac Hill. Return to the hotel overnight.

    Transfer to the airport (flight to Darwin – own expense – not included in price).

    Day 09: 22 May 2022 – Kakadu National Park (B)
    This morning we depart Darwin and travel through pristine wetland regions to Kakadu National Park. First, stop at the Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve. These wetlands have international significance because of their beauty and natural ecosystems. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year as well as a large variety of birdlife. Boardwalks take you through the different landscapes to observation platforms to view a large number of resident wading birds. From here we stop at the Famous Humpty Doo for lunch (own expense) – perhaps try our famous Trio Burger with Barra, Buffalo and Croc Burgers with fresh salad and chips. Next it onto the stunning Ubirr and view Aboriginal rock art dating back some 20,000 years. Take the short climb to the lookout from the top of this rocky outcrop for superb views over the flood plains and escarpment country. Enter into Kakadu, a 20,000 square kilometre suite of landscapes varying from red-hued escarpments that shelter historic Aboriginal rock art dating back thousands of years to floodplains teeming with wildlife before our arrival at Mercure Crocodile Hotel – our home for 3 nights.

    Day 10: 23 May 2022 – Kakadu National Park (B)
    We start our morning on a Yellow Waters Wetlands cruise. Yellow Waters billabong is located at the end of Jim Jim Creek, a tributary of the South Alligator River. This is the largest river system in Kakadu and contains extensive wetlands, including river channels, floodplains and backwater swamps. About one-third of Australia’s bird species are represented in Kakadu National Park, with at least 60 species found in these wetlands. There are also plenty of crocodiles in their natural habitat, and buffalo on the floodplains. Whistling Ducks and Magpie Geese are the most abundant. Eagles can be seen hovering searching for prey, and at times you will see distinctive Jabirus and may even get to see Brolgas dancing. We then visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre before continuing on to the ancient Aboriginal artwork at Nourlangie. Here you’ll find some of the world’s oldest and most impressive rock art, and spectacular views of the Arnhem Land escarpment. Nourlangie is one reason why Kakadu is World Heritage-listed for outstanding cultural values. This famous site, with its stunning rock paintings, documents life in the region from 20,000 years ago to the first contact with European explorers. This 1.5 km walk invites you to take a visual journey through time to an outdoor cultural museum where paintings, shelters and artefacts present traditional ways of life from numerous epochs. Later this afternoon we transfer back to our hotel overnight.

    Day 11: 24 May 2022 – Kakadu National Park (B)
    There is so much to do in Kakadu. Today is free for optional touring including cruises, helicopter flights, Jim Jim Falls, Fishing trips or join us on our Full day excursion to Arnhemland.

    Option: Full day Arnhemland Cultural Tour – ($290 per person – 8 hours)

    Journey across Cahill’s Crossing on the East Alligator River into Arnhem Land. Visit the entrance to Mikkinj Valley with its stunning scenery of billabongs, wildlife & towering escarpment. Enjoy either morning tea or lunch beside the Inkiyu Billabong. Travelling in comfortable 4WD buses, you will experience the region’s world-famous landscapes consisting of sandstone escarpment outcrops, rock art sites, forests, floodplains and billabongs alive with abundant birdlife. Arnhem Land permits, refreshments & lunch are included.

    Day 12: 25 May 2022 – Kakadu National Park (B)
    After a leisurely morning, we leave the park and slowly make our way back to Darwin. First, stop at the Corrobboree Park Tavern for some lunch (own expenses) then onto the famous jumping Crocodile Cruise. Spectacular Jumping Crocodile Cruises is the only aboriginal owned cruise on the Adelaide River. This means you are not just getting a croc cruise, you are introduced to the floodplains ecosystem, its history, wildlife and a peek into over 40,000 years of human interaction with this stunning environment. Suitable for all levels of fitness or mobility. After all, everyone should be able to witness the power of the mighty Australian Estuarine (Saltwater) Crocodile. Arrive in Darwin in the late Afternoon for two nights at the DoubleTree by Hilton Darwin.

    Day 13: 26 May 2022 – Full Day Litchfield National Park Tour including lunch (BL)
    Depart this morning on a full-day tour to Litchfield National Park Visit the Florence and Wangi Falls and Tolmer Falls. Cool off with a dip in the Buley Rockhole, and snap photos of the gigantic Cathedral and Magnetic Termite Mounds. Together with stunning tropical waterfalls and swimming holes, this is a truly beautiful destination found just south of Darwin. Litchfield National Park features numerous waterfalls that cascade from a sandstone plateau called the Tabletop Range, monsoon rainforests, intriguing magnetic termite mounds and historical sites. A stunning full-day adventure.
